City council election

Runavíkar municipality has many different towns and villages. In fact, we have 15 different postcodes in total.

In Runavíkar municipality we don’t have political parties running for the local election. We have local lists with people from the same town or a collection of villages that run together. This year, Borgaralistin decided to do things a little differently. People from different towns and villages decided to run together and work for the whole of our municipality together.

Political programme
We are united in working for

Behind Borgaralistin are 10 candidates that are united in working for the following political programme.

Integration

Eysturoy has the highest rate of immigration in the Faroe Islands. We will work to develop and maintain an integration policy to provide the best welcome to newcomers to the Faroes. Supporting the language development of small children should be given a high priority.

We will work to:

  • Develop an integration policy and implement it
  • Make sure courses in Faroese are available for newcomers
  • Support language development initiatives, especially for younger children
Housing

The population in Runavíkar municipality is growing and there is always a need for housing. Some of the plots in Saltangará and Skála are about to be ready, but many are already sold.

We need to be prepared for the future by:

  • Preparing to make more plots available
  • Working for more apartments for renters, especially older people
  • Making sure Runavíkar municipality has available plots in the different villages
Seniors

The Roðin partnership is a collaboration between three municipalities, Runavíkar municipality, Nes municipality and Sjóvar municipality. This partnership has worked well and needs to be maintained. We should continue to support initiatives that promote senior health and fitness.

We will work:

  • To make senior apartments available in our municipality
  • To continue to provide exercise
Traffic

Transportation planning is still needed and this effort needs to continue - especially in the main region of Runavík/Saltangará/Glyvrar. We also need to work with national authorities to keep the road system around the whole of Runavíkar municipality safe and in good working order for the expected increase in traffic.

We will work:

  • To cooperate well with Landsverk, the Faroese Agency for Public Works
  • To work together to solve transportation problems in the different towns and villages of the municipality
  • For safe roads and paths for cars, bikes, and pedestrians
Long term planning

Borgaralistin will work to see long term plans made for all of the towns and villages in our municipality. It is obvious that not all investments can be made at once and that needs change as conditions in society change. Still, long term planning is needed as priorities are made for the good of the whole of our municipality.

That is why we will work to:

  • Make long term plans for the whole of our municipality
  • Make long term plans for each town and village
  • Give citizens a say in the planning of their area through town committees and town meetings
Families

Families play an important role in our municipality and the need for daycare is growing as the population grows. We need long term planning so our daycare services can continue to work under good conditions. After the latest national election, the coalition also gave the municipalities the option of “letting the money follow the child” so some of the usual cost of daycare goes directly to parents who are not using the municipality daycare options but take care of children at home.

We want to:

  • Offer the sibling discount for child number two, not child number three as today
  • Make it possible for some of the municipal daycare cost to follow the child
  • Always have daycare openings available
Municipal bus services

The municipality of Runavík has 15 towns and villages but many of the jobs and services are in the main region of Runavík/Saltangará/Glyvrar. Our current school bus service is great but we also need citizens from the whole of Runavíkar municipality to have easier access to municipal services, work, sports, and other events. With a good bus service, we need fewer cars on the roads. This is good for the environment and takes some of the pressure of traffic in the main region.

That is why we need:

  • A bus service that serves all our towns and villages
  • That the bus service meets transport needs for a variety of services as well as school
  • The current bus services are updated and coordinated with other municipalities and the national bus service, SSL.
Trade and industry

We want the municipality of Runavík to be at the forefront in supporting new industries and innovation. Runavíkar municipality should use local vendors of goods and services when possible. Services should be outsourced locally if it can raise the level of service and is financially viable.

We will work:

  • For commercial plots to be available and certain areas to be set aside for industry
  • To support a startup environment in our municipality
  • For the continued improvement of our tourism industry by keeping facilities such as signs, paths, bins, and public restrooms in good order
Noise pollution

We need to work to bring down noise pollution in Runavíkar municipality - citizens need heimafrið. The harbours of our municipality should be dynamic and forward-looking and part of that is to considerate of neighbours and environment. Runavíkar municipality should work with other municipalities to push for national regulations for noise pollution.

We need to make sure:

  • That work outside regular hours takes the neighbours of the harbours into account
  • That a reasonable transition period is set for ships to convert to receive shore power (electricity from the main power grid)
Environment

Runavíkar municipality should develop a clear environmental policy and implement it. The municipality should work to promote biodiversity and the transition to green energy, improve recycling facilities and options and work to fight pollution.

We will work:

  • For new and refurbished municipal buildings to be heated by green energy
  • To cooperate with IRF to make home composting kits, Bokashi, available to citizens
  • For the continued improvement and implementation of the environmental policy
Transparency

Communicating well and providing clear information builds trust in local government. This needs to be an even higher priority in Runavíkar municipality.

We will work for our municipality to:

  • Communicate clearly and quickly with the citizens in all matters
  • Make minutes from committee meetings available and to review the number of members in municipal committees
  • Have an excellent administration with good service for citizens and high job satisfaction for municipal staff
